END-OF-YEAR FUNDRAISER
Help us raise $200,000 for local news
From November 1 through December 31, Local News Matters is participating in NewsMatch, a national year-end campaign that helps readers support nonprofit newsrooms. Led by the Institute for Nonprofit News, NewsMatch will match your gift up to $1,000. And thanks to an additional generous Bay Area donor, your contribution will be matched again.
That means your $20 gift becomes $60 for local news! Your support helps keep independent, community-focused journalism free and accessible to everyone.
About us
Bay City News Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to build a stronger local news ecosystem in California. Through Local News Matters, we serve 13 counties across the greater Bay Area and Northern California, from Mendocino to Monterey. Our four pillars
Bay City News Foundation continues to uphold the principles of independent journalism by:
Targeting news deserts—filling gaps in coverage for underserved communities.
Collaborating with other media organizations—strengthening local news ecosystems.
Mentoring young journalists—training the next generation through paid internships and partnerships with local universities.
Innovating with technology—using new tools and data-driven approaches to enhance news gathering and delivery.
Every donation helps support this critical work
While an article might be free to read, it’s not free to make. Covering a story that matters to the community can take days, weeks or even months — costing our newsroom hundreds to thousands.
