Early results showed Joy Motts and Monica Wilson ahead in the race for two contested Antioch City Council seats.
If she remains ahead for District 1, Motts will unseat incumbent Tamisha Torres-Walker — who just so happened to unseat Motts in 2020.
Motts previously served on the City Council from 2018 to 2020 in the midst of the city’s transition from at-large to district-based systems. After losing her seat in 2020, she ran against Torres-Walker in 2022 but lost once more (by three votes).
Now in 2026, Motts had 54.16% support in the race against Torres-Walker as of Tuesday night’s initial results.
Motts campaigned on public safety, economic growth, community pride, accountability and downtown revitalization.
“We can’t accept stagnancy,” Motts wrote in her candidate statement. “I will bring urgency, measurable goals, and accountability for a safer, stronger, more vibrant Antioch.”
Incumbent Wilson led the District 4 contest with 44.07% of the vote, compared to her competitors Sandra White, who had 28.92%, Matty Mathews Alappat with 16.4%, and Andrew Becker with 10.61%.
In her candidate statement, Wilson highlighted economic development, fiscal responsibility and clean neighborhoods as her priorities.
“Great leaders listen,” Wilson said. “I’ve built my career by bringing people together, hearing their concerns, and solving problems collaboratively.”
