In addition to a heat advisory this week, officials have issued a smog alert and are warning coastal residents of minor coastal flooding.
A Spare the Air alert has been issued for Wednesday by the Bay Area Air District, with concentrations of ozone expected to be unhealthy. Ozone is a reactive gas that acts as a protective shield against ultraviolet rays in the high atmosphere, but it forms harmful smog at ground level, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
