Installation of prefabricated modular units for a 32-unit affordable housing development in unincorporated Mill Valley could begin as early as Tuesday, pending completion of outstanding permits, county officials said.

Underground work at the project site at 156 Shoreline Highway has been completed, according to the county.

Marin County previously issued a stop-work order after construction continued while building permits were being finalized.

A large crane was delivered to the site Tuesday in preparation for installing the modular sections, which will form the five-story apartment building. Installation could take up to three weeks, depending on weather, transportation and other logistical factors, county officials said.

The work is expected to cause daytime construction noise, temporary parking restrictions along part of Shoreline Highway and traffic holds as trucks enter and leave the site.

Trucks are expected approximately every 30 to 60 minutes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with most traffic holds lasting about 60 to 90 seconds.

No weekend work is anticipated, and there will be no construction or traffic restrictions Friday, Sept. 4, ahead of increased Labor Day weekend travel. The schedule remains subject to change.
