Two drop-off sites in Union City that opened to help households dispose of waste amid an ongoing labor strike that has disrupted collections are now closed, the city said. 

Drop-off locations at the Union City BART station parking lot #1, 11th Street and Decoto Road, and the Mark Green Sports Center, 31224 Union City Blvd., closed Monday afternoon.  

The sites opened last week after striking workers at a Republic Services landfill in San Joaquin County disrupted waste collection across the Bay Area. Customers in the Contra Costa, Solano and San Mateo counties and other areas have also experienced delays.  

Union City residents can drop off waste at no additional cost at the Fremont collection site, located at the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station 41149 Boyce Road. The facility is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.    

To receive free waste drop-off services, residents should bring proof of residency or business address, the city said.
