The Stockton Police Department is hosting a gun buyback event Saturday where people can receive cash gift cards in exchange for firearms.

The event is planned from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a parking lot at 300 N. Harrison St.

People can receive $200 or $400 depending on the type of firearm but no gift cards will be given for non-operable firearms, police said.

People are advised to enter the parking lot from Harrison Street south of Fremont Street. All firearms must be unloaded and in the truck of the vehicle, and drivers and passengers should stay in their car and follow officers’ instructions.

People are not required to provide identification to participate in the gun buyback, and all firearms collected during the event will be destroyed, according to police.
