Gregory’s appointment by City Manager Chris Zapata took effect Monday, the city said in an announcement.

Gregory has spent 26 years with the Sausalito Police Department. She will be the second woman and the first lesbian in the post, according to Zapata.

The new chief was selected without a formal recruitment campaign because of her successful performance as acting chief since June 2022, the city said.

Gregory became a Sausalito police officer in 1997. She was promoted to sergeant after nine years. She was promoted to lieutenant in 2016, followed by advancement to captain.

The public is invited to attend Gregory’s swearing-in ceremony and reception at 4 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Spinnaker Restaurant, when six other police department promotions will also be acknowledged.
