Early returns in Tuesday’s election suggest that San Ramon Mayor Mark Armstrong is leading in his reelection bid as he battles nonprofit director Paschalis Ntatsos and student Emma Chigbu to retain his seat for another term.
According to preliminary results Tuesday night, Armstrong had received 77% of the vote, while Ntatsos and Chigbu had 14.1% and 8.9%, respectively.
Armstrong was elected mayor in 2024, before which he served as the councilmember representing District 2.
Armstrong has identified fiscal stability and responsible planning as priorities for a second term.
“I support policies that strengthen public safety, preserve our parks and open spaces, support local businesses, and ensure that new development is accompanied by appropriate infrastructure and city services,” Armstrong said in his candidate statement submitted to the city of San Ramon.
Ntatsos, who served in the Greek Navy before immigrating to the United States, has been a resident of San Ramon since 2009, his campaign website said.
“Through decades of leading organizations, balancing budgets, and solving complex challenges, I know how to set big goals, control operational costs, and actually execute a plan,” he said in his candidate statement.
The third candidate in the race is Chigbu, who is running to represent younger residents of San Ramon on the City Council.
“City Council is not representative of the younger residents of San Ramon,” Chigbu said on her campaign website. “I feel it is my duty to give back to the city that made me who I am. Young families and professionals should have the same opportunities to live here that my family was blessed to have.”
The initial results included counted vote-by-mail ballots and in-person ballots from early voting sites. The final election night report was expected by midnight, but county elections officials said the election night report often only represents about half of the total votes cast. The next report will be posted by 5 p.m. Friday.
