Family members and loved ones are in mourning after a crash in Vacaville over the weekend killed a father and left a mother hospitalized in critical condition.
Around 2:35 a.m. Saturday, a car containing the couple overturned on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 near the Lagoon Valley Road exit in Vacaville. After overturning, the car was hit by multiple vehicles.
The driver, identified by the Solano County Coroner as Greg Tobias, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was taken to the hospital, where she remains in serious condition.
According to a GoFundMe campaign put together by Tobias’ family, the two have a child who “is now facing a future without his father, while his mother continues the fight of her life.”
The California Highway Patrol said the child was not in the car with his parents when the crash occurred.
The fundraiser launched Saturday with a goal of $80,000 to help with medical bills, funeral expenses and day-to-day support for the child. Hundreds of people have donated, and by Tuesday, the fundraiser had reached nearly $67,000.
