Aisha Wahab was ahead of Melissa Hernandez in the race to replace Eric Swalwell in California’s 14th Congressional District based on early returns Tuesday night.
Wahab, a former state senator, was ahead with 58.5% of the vote, compared to 41.5% for Hernandez, president of the BART Board of Directors, according to numbers from the Alameda County Registrar of Voters Office.
Wahab beat Hernandez in an August runoff election to serve the remainder of Swalwell’s term that ends in January.
She also beat Hernandez in a June contest for the same seat, but because neither candidate garnered a majority vote, they were required to go at it again in the August runoff.
Swalwell resigned from his congressional seat in April amid accusations of sexual assault. He has denied all allegations against him.
The district is entirely in Alameda County and includes the cities of Hayward, Pleasanton, Livermore, Union City, Castro Valley and parts of Dublin and Fremont.
