A stolen car being chased by Vallejo police collided with another vehicle, leading to the arrest of a felon with a firearm, officials said.

The driver of the stolen car, a 22-year-old from Hercules, had multiple convictions on firearm-related felonies and was on probation from Contra Costa County for being a felon in possession of a firearm, Vallejo police said Friday.

Police were alerted about 8:30 p.m. Monday that its automated license plate reader system had spotted a white Infinti Q50, reported stolen from Modesto.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle near Sonoma Boulevard and Solano Avenue, but the driver made a sudden U-turn and fled, police said.

Officers chased the vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road on Solano Avenue until it collided with another vehicle and a roadside object near the Interstate Highway 80 on-ramp, police said. The occupant of the other vehicle was not injured.

The driver from the stolen car fled on foot and was captured trying to scale a fence, police said.

A police K-9 located a loaded semiautomatic, enabled for automatic fire, on the floor of the stolen car.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital for an examination and later booked into the Solano County Jail, police said.
