Two Oakland residents are in custody on suspicion of homicide and attempted homicide in relation to a May shooting in downtown San Jose that killed one person and injured others who were in a car, police said Friday.
Cameron Haynes, 21, and Samuel Jordan, 23, were arrested last week for alleged involvement in a shooting that ended with the victims’ car crashing into a building.
In the early morning hours of May 31, San Jose police responded to a shooting in the area of South First and East Reed streets. Officers discovered a car that had collided into a building as well as two men each suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
A third man in the car was not shot but sustained injuries from the crash. All victims were taken to a hospital, but one died after succumbing to his injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were traveling in a car when unknown suspects allegedly fired several gunshots into the car then fled the scene before officers arrived, according to police.
Police said they used automated license plate reader cameras to identify Haynes and Jordan as the two suspects.
On Thursday, Oct. 8, police located Jordan in Oakland and took him into custody in the Santa Clara County Main Jail. Haynes was already in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility in Contra Costa County for an unrelated crime.
Police are still investigating any motives and circumstances surrounding the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact San Jose police detectives at [email protected] or [email protected] or contact the Homicide Unit at 408-277-5283.
