The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco will hold an observance Friday marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi.

Organizers say the sacred blood of St. Francis will leave Italy for San Francisco for the first time in history. The relics will be open to the public Saturday.

The observance will take place at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption, located at 1111 Gough St.
