PG&E had shut off power to 6,824 customers in five Bay Area counties as of Thursday morning as a safety measure ahead of forecasted high winds and dry conditions.

PG&E said that as of 6 a.m., the outages affected 3,158 customers in Napa County, 2,169 in Sonoma County, 1,358 in Contra Costa County, 88 in Alameda County and 51 in Solano County. In Mendocino County, there were 444 affected customers.

PG&E began shutting off power around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday as part of a Public Safety Power Shutoff. About 90,000 customers across 29 counties are included in the shutoffs, the utility said.

More power shutoffs were planned for Thursday morning and Friday morning. PG&E said affected customers had received multiple notifications about the service interruptions.

The utility plans to open more than 40 Community Resource Centers across 25 counties. The centers will offer device charging, Wi-Fi, bottled water, snacks and other supplies.
