The San Leandro Public Library has opened a new Technology Corner in the Children’s Library at the Main Library, offering school-age children hands-on opportunities to explore coding, robotics and creative problem-solving, according to city officials.
The space was made possible by a donation from the Donna Reed Foundation to the San Leandro Public Library Foundation, with a portion of the gift designated to expand learning opportunities for children ages 6 to 11, the San Leandro Public Library said.
The new area features child-friendly furniture, artwork by Susan Deming and interactive learning tools, including a coding robot, snap circuits and an art projector.
Children can also access Fiero Code, a free online coding platform with games and self-paced activities, city officials said.
Families can borrow technology tools, including Sphero and Ozobot Evo robots, along with kits focused on electronics, robotics and coding, to continue learning at home.
The library is encouraging families to visit the updated space. A date for the ribbon-cutting ceremony will be announced later.
