The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit is seeking public input on two potential locations for a future Healdsburg station as it advances plans to restore passenger rail service to the city for the first time in nearly 70 years.
The two sites under consideration are Depot/Hudson, next to Healdsburg’s historic rail depot, and Vine/West Plaza/Downtown, on Vine Street near the Healdsburg Plaza, according to transit officials.
The locations are about 0.45 miles apart but differ in access to downtown businesses, public transit, parking, nearby neighborhoods and opportunities for future development.
The Depot/Hudson site is about an eight-minute walk from the plaza and offers more space for station facilities and potential development. The Healdsburg City Council selected it as its preferred location in February 2024 and reaffirmed that preference in September 2026, transit officials said.
The Vine/West Plaza/Downtown site is about a four-minute walk from the plaza, placing it closer to existing businesses, services and downtown activities. It also offers connections to local and regional bus service but has less space for station facilities, parking and future development.
SMART Board Chair Chris Coursey said public feedback will help determine which location best serves residents, workers, students, businesses and visitors.
Community members can learn more about the project and participate in the public engagement process.
