What’s the difference between a dock by the bay and a roadway?
Apparently nothing to a sea lion.
California Highway Patrol officers were called to Moss Landing, the fishing village and marine research center in northern Monterey County, on Friday after a report of sea lions on the roadway.
“Apparently, these sea lions decided the middle of the road was the perfect spot to bask in the California sunshine,” the highway patrol said on social media.
About 400 sea lions typically hang out at a public dock in Moss Landing, according to the web site See Monterey.
Sea lions are seemingly everywhere on the California coast these days.

A Steller sea lion, which can weigh 2,000 pounds, hauled out Wednesday on San Francisco’s Pier 39 among the 700-pound California sea lion that typically make sport there, according to a post on Instagram.
He replaced another Stellar sea lion, nicknamed Chonkers, who became an Internet celebrity and was last seen in May.
Last month, the City of Monterey temporarily closed San Carlos Beach, near Cannery Row, because hundreds of migrating sea lions were congregating there as they migrate north after breeding season.
