More than a month after a devastating cyberattack forced Suisun City to halt day-to-day operations and declare a state of emergency, city officials announced Tuesday that all departments would reopen to the public and resume regular scheduling.
A federal investigation into the malware attack is ongoing, according to a statement from the city.
On Aug. 7, malware infected Suisun City’s two-person information technology department, triggering a shutdown of the city’s computer network. The next day, the city declared a state of emergency, opening access to emergency funding.
The name of the entity behind the malware attack and its demands have not been publicly released. Suisun City, with a population of 30,000, will continue to work with the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to investigate the cause of the cyberattack and what records, if any, were compromised.
