The Monterey County Government Center in Salinas, which has been shut down for more than two weeks, will reopen Tuesday, the county said.

The center on Alisal Street will be open beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The county announced the center’s closure on Sept. 3 after an extensive sewer line malfunction occurred that mostly affected the building’s first floor, which contains customer service for several departments. The closure was needed to allow cleanup and remediation work and ensure the safety of employees and the public, the county said.

All floors and departments at the location, including satellite Board of Supervisors offices and Board Chambers, will be open, and Board meetings will take place in chambers as normal, the county said.

Other departments now open are the Assessor/Clerk/Recorder’s Office, the Treasurer/Tax Collector’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, the office of Supervisor Luis Alejo, District 2, the County Administrative Office, Human Resources, County Counsel and the Auditor-Controller’s Office.
