The Bay Area Air District on Sunday night issued an air quality advisory for the North Bay through Monday due to wildfire smoke from the Chileno Fire burning in Marin County.
A health advisory for smoke generated by the 341-acre blaze has been issued for Sonoma and Marin counties but could expand to other counties.
“Smoke is currently impacting portions of Sonoma and Marin counties and may spread into Napa and Solano counties,” the air district said Sunday night.
Forward progress on the fire was halted Sunday evening.
Smoke impacts are not guaranteed, the air district said, and the 24-hour average smoke concentrations are not expected to exceed the national health standard. Conditions can change rapidly, and the amount and location of smoke at ground level remain difficult to predict. As of Sunday night, no Spare the Air advisory had been issued.
Residents may experience “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” “unhealthy” or “very unhealthy” air quality caused by the fire, and certain people may experience adverse health effects across the region, health officials said.
Residents should keep windows and doors closed and bring in pets.
Check the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Fire and Smoke Map to see if smoke is affecting an area.
