The San Francisco Department of Elections will begin this week issuing ballots for the Nov. 3 election to more than 11,000 local voters serving in the military or living outside the United States, the agency announced Thursday.
Military and overseas voters receive their ballots earlier than other voters under federal and state election laws, department officials said.
Depending on the delivery method selected in their voter registration records, ballots will be sent by email, fax, or postal mail, the Department of Elections said.
“Military and overseas voters” generally includes active-duty members of the U.S. armed forces and auxiliary branches, U.S. citizens living abroad, Merchant Marine members, and spouses or dependents of active-duty military members, according to the Department of Elections.
The Department of Elections said it provides return instructions and maintains a dedicated email address for military and overseas voters to answer questions.
Voters can find information about registering as a military or overseas voter and requesting, receiving and returning a ballot at sfelections.gov/MILOS or by contacting sfvoteabroad@sfgov.org.
