A new five-acre waterfront park combining Embarcadero Plaza and Sue Bierman Park will be known as Embarcadero Park, while the current Embarcadero Plaza will be renamed Art Agnos Plaza, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission announced Thursday.
The commission approved the names and a donor recognition program for the project, with the plaza honoring former Mayor Art Agnos, whose administration supported removing the earthquake-damaged Embarcadero Freeway and reconnecting downtown with the waterfront.
