Jim Obergefell is the Obergefell of Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court case that made same-sex marriage legal nationwide. He sued Ohio in 2013 so that he would be listed as the surviving spouse on the death certificate of his husband, John Arthur, who was dying of ALS. He is also a co-founder of Equality Vines, which he said opened its Guerneville tasting room in 2017.
