Richmond is 3rd Bay Area city to suspend new data centers with moratorium

Richmond has become the third Bay Area city recently to temporarily halt new data center development, following Oakley and Gilroy, as its officials take time to study the potential impacts of the rapidly growing industry.

The Richmond City Council voted Tuesday night to establish a 45-day moratorium on new data center development. The pause gives city officials time to study potential impacts and consider permanent protections before a project is proposed within city limits.
