Police in Monterey arrested a fired restaurant employee accused of burglarizing his former worksite, the department said Friday.

On Aug. 22 just before 10 a.m., officers responded to a restaurant in the 400 block of Washington Street on a report of a burglary.

According to investigators, a suspect broke the front door of the restaurant in order to gain entry and then tried to steal a cash drawer but was unsuccessful. The suspect grabbed some loose cash and fled.

Detectives identified Christian Kraftzeck, 32, as the suspect in this case and said he was a former worker at the restaurant who had been terminated.

On Wednesday just after 8 a.m., a search warrant was executed in the 1100 block of Sixth Street in Monterey, where Kraftzeck was located and found to allegedly be in possession of pepper spray. As a felon, he was barred from having pepper spray and he was arrested.

On Thursday, detectives looked at surveillance footage from the day of the burglary that allegedly showed Kraftzeck leaving the scene with the stolen items.

Kraftzeck was booked into jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of pepper spray and burglary.
