A Petaluma man was arrested for allegedly fencing stolen goods after Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies said they seized almost $1 million worth of property including gold, silver, jewelry, firearms and tools.
Carlos Loyan, 62, was accused of organized retail theft and receiving known stolen property, among other allegations, the Sheriff’s Office said Friday.
Seven search warrants were served July 28 in Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park and Petaluma as part of a months-long organized retail theft fencing investigation, deputies said.
Investigators said they found almost $1 million in suspected stolen property including gold, silver, jewelry, firearms, toys, comic books, tools, and household goods.
“Fences play a critical role in organized retail theft by purchasing and reselling stolen merchandise, creating a market that enables theft operations to remain profitable,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
It said commonly targeted items include alcohol, cosmetics, fragrances, medications, clothing, tools, gift cards, and other high-demand consumer products.
