The six-alarm fire in a Foster City apartment complex Sunday has been successfully extinguished, the city announced Monday afternoon in a news release.
Just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday, units with the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department and partnering public safety agencies responded to a reported fire at an apartment complex at 815 Sea Spray Lane, along Seal Slough.
According to Foster City police, no residents were injured in the fire, but four firefighters suffered minor injuries, including burns and smoke inhalation. While two firefighters were transported to a local hospital, the city said they are expected to make full recoveries.
According to city officials, fire crews are remaining on site to extinguish hot spots and flare-ups. The fire department requests that residents avoid the surrounding area and keep windows and doors closed to avoid exposure to thick, heavy smoke.
The American Red Cross assisted evacuated residents and will continue providing health services for those in need until Tuesday at 7 p.m. People impacted by the fire can register at the Peninsula Jewish Community Center’s 24-hour shelter at 800 Foster City Blvd.
In addition, Foster City Chamber of Commerce CEO Crystal Tilton started a GoFundMe for the displaced residents and families affected by the fire. As of Monday afternoon, the GoFundMe had collected more than $39,000 from approximately 260 donations. According to the fundraiser, the funds will go toward temporary housing, food, clothing and other essential expenses for those who were displaced.
“When it is safe to access the site, City staff will inspect the status of the structures,” the Foster City release said. “More information on that effort may be forthcoming.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
