OUSD goes cellphone-free: Students will be banned from using their devices on campus

Starting this fall, every school day will be a cellphone-free day for students who are a part of the Oakland Unified School District. This means that during class, between class, and during lunch, students are not allowed to use their cellphones.

The new policy comes after the passage in the state Legislature of Assembly Bill 3216, which requires local districts to develop and implement policies by July 1 that limit or prohibit the use of cellphones in schools.
