Supporters and opponents of an affordable housing complex for senior farmworkers in Half Moon Bay began gearing up for a battle at the ballot box following a unanimous City Council vote Tuesday that put the matter up for a popular vote.
An ordinance authorizing the project and the lease of city-owned property at 555 and 535 Kelly Ave. to a nonprofit affordable housing developer, Mercy Housing, was approved in May by a divided City Council vote of 3-2 after years of planning.
