The Port of Oakland, the fourth largest on the Pacific coast, recorded a 7.7% increase in the number of containers it handled in June, with gains in imports and exports, officials said.
Container volume, measured in 20-foot equivalent units, or TEUs, reached 181,356 in June. Full imports rose 11.1% to 78,114 year over year, while exports increased 9.3% to 65,140, the port said Friday.
Results through the first six months of 2026 totaled 1,114,665 TEUs, or 2.5% below the same period last year. The decline reflected lower empty container repositioning, the port said. Loaded cargo increased 0.3% over the same period.
“We’re encouraged by the continued strength in loaded cargo,” Acting Maritime Director Jason Garben said in a statement.
Combined loaded container cargo for June totaled 143,254 TEUs, a 10.3% increase from the previous June.
The port recorded 81 vessel calls during June, up from 77 during the same month last year.
June’s increases in loaded imports and loaded exports reflected continued activity among retailers, manufacturers and California agricultural exporters, the port said.
