San Jose police release images of suspects in theft of war memorial statue

Police in San Jose, Calif., are asking for the public's help identifying two suspects accused of stealing and vandalizing a monument at the city's Vietnamese Heritage Garden. Officers responded at about 1:24 p.m. on June 21, 2026 to a report of a grand theft at the garden in the 1400 block of Roberts Avenue. Based on surveillance footage, between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. that day, two suspects tampered with the "Thank You, America Monument," stole several flags and took an approximately 9-foot-tall South Vietnamese soldier statue. San Jose police are asking for the public’s help identifying two suspects accused of stealing and vandalizing a monument at the city’s Vietnamese Heritage Garden in June.

Officers responded at about 1:24 p.m. on June 21 to a report of a grand theft at the garden in the 1400 block of Roberts Avenue, the San Jose Police Department said in a statement Wednesday.
