Daylighting law creates opportunity for more bike-share stations in cleared SF curb spaces

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday afternoon to commemorate the start of the agency’s initiative to efficiently increase the number of bike rental stations at city curbs.

More bike stations and community installations are set to pop up across San Francisco as the SFMTA looks to make use of curb spaces left empty because of the state’s daylighting law, which is aimed at reducing vehicle collisions and requires 20 feet of space to be clear before a crosswalk — an urban planning tactic to bring “daylight” to an intersection.
