A young American crow found in El Cerrito is the first bird to test positive for West Nile virus in Contra Costa County this year, county officials said Thursday.
The discovery of an infected bird follows last week’s announcement that the county’s first West Nile virus-infected mosquitoes this year were collected from a trap near Pacheco Marsh in the Martinez waterfront area. Mosquitoes typically become infected with the virus after biting an infected bird, according to the Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District.
