Dixon police are fielding calls from residents regarding a constant droning sound likened to a jet engine coming from the Campbell Soup Supply Company on Pedrick Road just outside the city.
The sound started on Tuesday and is expected to last for at least another week, through July 1.
According to police, Campbell’s has said the sound is due to routine annual steam cleaning and happens every year.
Emma McNeil, a spokesperson for the city of Dixon, confirmed that it’s not the first time the noise has happened, but it is significantly louder than in previous years.
“It depends on the wind, weather and where you are in town if you can hear it,” said McNeil.
McNeil said around a dozen residents have made calls, prompting them to send out an alert on social media to ensure residents are aware of what is causing the sound.
The factory in Dixon is Campbell’s largest facility, and produces a majority of the tomato base for products sold nationwide.
