It’s not every day that a teen gets to operate a robotic surgical device.

On Monday, Dr. May-Anh Nguyen, a minimally invasive surgeon at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, helped guide Ivana, 13, a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley, through a surgical skills exercise using the da Vinci surgical robot.
