Santa Clara County voters have voted slightly in favor of Measure D, a parcel tax meant to protect open spaces, wildlife habitat, water resources, and agricultural land, according to early results from Tuesday’s election.
Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority’s Measure D proposes a $0.02 per square foot tax of building area on properties, capped at $7,500 per parcel.
Proponents of the measure gathered enough signatures to qualify it for the ballot as an initiative so it will require approval by a simple majority of voters to pass.
As of 10:50 p.m., 53.01% have voted in favor of the measure, and 46.99% against.
