Early voting results from Tuesday’s election suggest that Councilmember Claudia Jimenez is leading in Richmond’s mayoral race.
District 6 Councilmember Jimenez commanded 34% of the vote as of 8:12 p.m., followed by Ahmad Anderson, former chair of the Richmond Economic Development Commission, at 29.37% and incumbent Mayor Eduardo Martinez with 21.9% of the vote.
A candidate needs to get a majority of votes to be elected mayor. If no one candidate can secure 50% of the vote, the top two candidates will advance to a November runoff.
Demnlus Johnson III and Mark Wassberg are the other two candidates running in the election.
