Residential burn permits are now required in six Northern California counties, after the rule took effect May 1, fire officials said.

The CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said permits are now mandatory in Sonoma, Napa, Lake, Solano, Yolo and Colusa counties.
