Santa Clara County Superior Court officials are warning residents about a rise in jury duty scams across the county in which callers impersonate court officials or law enforcement officers to pressure people into providing personal information or money.
In a statement, court officials said scammers are using increasingly sophisticated tactics, including fake badge numbers and manipulated images of government locations, to convince victims they missed a court appearance and must pay penalties.
The court urged residents to avoid sharing personal or financial information with anyone claiming to represent the court over the phone, noting that official personnel do not request sensitive information in unsolicited calls.
Court officials advised anyone who receives suspicious jury-related communications to contact their local police department’s fraud unit and report the incident to the court’s jury office. The warning was issued in coordination with state court officials as part of broader efforts to prevent additional scams.
Santa Clara County court officials also provided the court’s jury office contact email for reporting suspected scams.
