Christian Tubbs, the fire chief of the Southern Marin Fire Protection District, has submitted his resignation after more than 11 years.

Tubbs will retire July 1, according to the district, concluding 47 years in the fire profession.

The district protects the cities of Mill Valley and Sausalito, a portion of Tiburon and the communities of Tamalpais Valley, Almonte, Homestead Valley, Alto, Strawberry, Fort Baker and the Marin Headlands. 

The Board of Directors of the Southern Marin Fire Protection District said it will conduct an open and competitive recruitment process to select its next chief.
