Soaking rain is expected to arrive in the Bay Area on Tuesday, bringing wet roads and steady showers that could last through midweek, forecasters said.

In a briefing Monday, the National Weather Service said rain is likely to spread across much of Northern and Central California on Tuesday and continue through Wednesday, with a slight chance of lingering light rain into early Thursday. Rain is expected across regions including the North Bay, San Francisco, the Peninsula, the East Bay, South Bay, and Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. The heaviest and most consistent rainfall is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
