SAN MATEO COUNTY HAS RELEASED the names of the candidates qualified to serve as the next sheriff after the Board of Supervisors decided to fill the vacancy caused by the firing of former Sheriff Christina Corpus through a long-term appointment. 

Seven candidates, each with decades of local law enforcement experience, have passed the first round of screening.
