The San Francisco Giants on Monday announced the dismissal of Bob Melvin as the team’s manager, a day after their Major League Baseball season came to a close without a postseason berth.
Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey said in a statement that the move was made after meeting with ownership. San Francisco finished the 2025 season with a 81-81 record and went 161-163 in Melvin’s two seasons as manager.
“After careful evaluation, we determined that making a change in leadership was in the best interest of the team. The last couple of months have been both disappointing and frustrating for all of us, and we did not perform up to our standards. We now turn our focus to identifying a new leader to guide us forward,” Posey said.

Melvin came to the Giants after being the San Diego Padres’ manager for two seasons. Before that, he was the then-Oakland A’s manager for a decade and also managed the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks before that.
He grew up in the Bay Area and played baseball at Menlo-Atherton High School and University of California, Berkeley, then played catcher for the Giants among several MLB teams between 1985 and 1994.
