People from all over the Bay Area and beyond who like to see fast, loud, earth-shaking cars run a quarter mile at over 300 mph were at Sonoma Raceway on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to watch the 37th annual Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals.

There were many highlights, but top fuel drag racer Doug Kalitta on Sunday drove his Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster to his first win this season and his sixth career victory, defeating Antron Brown in his Matco Tools/Lucas Oil/Toyota dragster.

2024 NHRA Funny Car World Champion Austin Prock gave another win to John Force Racing in his Cornwell Tools Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car. Teammate Brittany Force lost to Shawn Langdon in the first round of Top Fuel and Jack Beckman was disqualified in the semifinals for crossing the centerline. The win increases Prock’s point lead over Matt Hagen to 201.

In the Pro Stock final, it was a father-son battle. Greg Stanfield, who returned to Pro Stock this year, raced his son Aaron, winning by 0.016 of a second. It was also his first career victory at Sonoma.

Richard Gadson got his second career victory– his first being in Norwalk, Ohio last month– in Pro Stock Motorcycle, defeating John Hall.
