The San Rafael City Council has approved up to $500,000 to help purchase a 1.65-acre property at 620 Canal St., officials said.
The purchase advances plans for a public park and a future pedestrian and bicycle bridge connecting the Canal neighborhood to Montecito Plaza and San Rafael High School.
