Hayward’s library chief is set to take over as interim city manager at the beginning of July, city officials announced.

Director of library services Jayanti Addleman will replace city attorney Michael Lawson, who has been temporarily serving as city manager since May 20.
That’s when the City Council unanimously voted to place Ana Alvarez on paid administrative leave during a closed session hearing. City officials haven’t given a reason for the move.
Lawson will go back to his duties as city attorney after Addleman takes over on July 1.
Hayward Mayor Mark Salinas said the City Council intends to appoint Addleman this coming Tuesday and she is expected to serve until at least the end of 2025.
Addleman has served on the city’s executive team and has led the Hayward Public Library since 2019. She oversaw the opening of the city’s new state-of-the-art downtown library and an expansion of services, programs and partnerships, city officials said in a news release.
