A proposed parcel tax meant to benefit the Acalanes Union High School District in Lafayette has failed to pass after falling short of a necessary two-thirds majority approval by voters.
Measure T garnered 63.57% of the vote in the May 6 mail-in special election — 19,448 of the 30,591 votes were “yes” votes.
Measure T asked voters in the Lafayette-based district to renew a parcel tax worth $4.5 million annually to help fund advanced academic courses, attract and retain highly qualified teachers, prepare students for college and careers, and maintain manageable class sizes.
The Acalanes school board approved the special election at its Jan. 27 meeting.
