Bolinas Museum appoints longtime local Shaefer as its new executive director

The Bolinas Museum has appointed Jessica Shaefer as its new executive director, the museum announced.

Shaefer, who has lived in Bolinas for several years, brings extensive experience in arts programming and community engagement, according to a news release.

She previously worked with Gray Area for Google, leading international art commissions, and at Meta Open Arts, overseeing public programs and partnerships. Her background also includes roles with Sites Unseen in San Francisco and Creative Time in New York City.

“With her experience and personal connection to Bolinas, we know Jess will bring a thoughtful, collaborative spirit to her leadership at the museum,” Leah Vermulen Lopez, the Interim Director of Operations, said.

The museum will soon host events for the public to meet Shaefer and learn about her vision for the institution, the director said.
