The city of Santa Clara will be holding a drop-off event on Saturday where residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste.

Residents will only know the drop-off location when they book their appointment to attend the event by calling the County Household Hazardous Waste Program at (408) 299-7300 or by visiting hhw.org.

Items that can be disposed of include fluorescent light tubes, compact fluorescent lightbulbs, paint, automotive fluids, cleaners, solvents, batteries, propane and helium tanks, fertilizers, pesticides, wood preservatives, sharps containers, prescription medications, electronic waste, and other types of household hazardous wastes.

Police said things that are not permitted are Styrofoam, large household appliances, ammunition, explosives, or containers larger than five gallons.

Residents can also throw their unwanted or expired prescription medications at drop-off bins in our lobby at the Santa Clara Police Department lobby at 601 El Camino Real. The bins are available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More information on household hazardous waste types accepted during the event can be seen at hhw.org.Â
