If you get a call from someone saying they’re a Benicia cop, police warn it’s likely a scam

Benicia police are advising the public to remain vigilant against scams after several reports from local residents who received phone calls from someone claiming to be from the police department.

Police said the scammer uses a false badge number to identify themself and says the resident is a victim of identity theft.
